Senior Pet Care

Much like people, pets have evolving needs as they get older.

They become more susceptible to certain problems — like arthritis — and their exercise and nutrition needs change. At Vedder Mountain Veterinary Clinic, we are here to help you make your beloved companion’s senior years just as comfortable and enjoyable as their earlier years. We are proud to offer compassionate senior pet care in Chilliwack and would be honored to be entrusted with your companion’s care during this often-challenging time of their life.

Caring for Senior Pets

Animals age must faster than we do, so they are typically classified as “seniors” at around seven years of age. Around this time, pets begin slowing down. They become less energetic than their younger selves, and they start spending more time lying around than playing. This, of course, means that you need to change their diet to prevent obesity. The right diet can also help with age-related health issues, too, like arthritis, diabetes, etc.

Seniors are also more prone to disease, so it’s also crucial to bring them in for routine exams. We recommend scheduling twice-yearly exams for your senior pet, so we can keep a close eye on their health and spot warning signs of potential problems early. Keeping up with this type of routine care provides us with the information we need to help your furry friend remain healthy, happy, and by your side for as many years as possible.
